Gov. Rick Scott appointed four to the 20th Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission Wednesday.

The nominating commission appointments are: Reginald S. Gibson Jr., Russell T. Kirshy, F. Joseph McMackin III and Pamela Stewart.

Task Force to Probe Impact of Prescription Drugs on Newborns

A task force focused on prescription drug abuse, specifically its impact on newborns, would be created by legislation announced Wednesday by Attorney General Pam Bondi, Sen. Joe Negron, R-Stuart, and Rep. Kelli Stargel, R-Lakeland.

The task force would be charged with examining the scope of the problem, the costs associated with caring for babies with neonatal withdrawal syndrome, the long-term effects of the syndrome, and strategies for preventing prescription drug abuse by expectant mothers, a release from the attorney generals office stated.

Romney Opposes Second Stimulus, Calls Early Primary 'Exciting'

Gov. Rick Scott Pencils in 15 Minutes for Romney

GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney will be in Tallahassee today, meeting separately with business leaders and Gov. Rick Scott.

Romney, who took what he recalled as his sixth trip to the Central Florida retirement haven of The Villages on Tuesday, will bring his campaign to the Seminole Wind Restaurant, 2226 N. Monroe St., just after noon.

At 2:15 p.m., Romney is slated to meet with Gov. Scott in the governors office at the Capitol.

Scott hasnt formally endorsed any GOP primary candidate.

Rick Scott May Dip into Claude Kirk’s Orange Ink

After attending former Gov. Claude Kirks funeral in Palm Beach on Monday, Gov. Rick Scott said he may want to pick up one of the late Sunshine State promoters staples.

Scott said he was told Kirk was famous for signing documents only with orange ink, a reflection of Floridas citrus industry.

He said his job was to promote the state, Scott said of Kirk.

Scott brought up the ink after recognizing that state Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam has been providing Florida Cabinet members at their meetings with orange juice.

Florida Cabinet to Meet Oct. 18 at Cape Canaveral

The Florida Cabinet is taking its next meetingon the road to the Space Coast.

Gov. Rick Scott announced Tuesday that the Oct. 18 Cabinet meeting will be held at Cape Canaveral.

These programs work to protect a $65 billion economic impact, and the over 686,181 direct and indirect jobs which the defense industry annually infuses into Florida, Scott stated in a release.
