AAA: End Coming to Decline in Pump Prices
Gas prices may soon tick under the $3 mark in parts of Florida, but AAA cautions motorists not to get too comfortable with the prices.
Decisions to shore up the European Union’s two-year financial crisis could put the brakes on the recent downward trend of pump prices.
"For many, a feeling of relief comes when $2 replaces $3 on the marquee for a gallon of gas," Jessica Brady, AAA spokeswoman, stated in a release.
"For the first time this year, motorists will pay less than $3 a gallon for retail gasoline and the timing couldn't be better as the Independence Day holiday approaches. While drivers will enjoy the reduced prices this week, they may start to see prices stall and even a slight uptick at the pump, depending on how the situation with Iran unfolds and how long Europe's financial plan maintains the market's optimism."
Besides the European pact, speculation on oil prices also grew this past week on the implementation of Europe's sanctions against Iran that ban everything from the purchase to insurance of Iranian oil.
Oil prices settled Friday at $84.96 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, up $5.20 from the prior week.
In Florida, the week began with a gallon of gas averaging $3.19, 15 cents below the national mark.
Florida’s price is down 7 cents from a week earlier, 26 cents from a month ago.
For the Independence Day holiday in 2011, gas was selling for $3.50 in Florida.

So where's the Republican $5/gallon anti-Obama spin this month?
OK, now you have to spin dropping prices by cautioning that current drops MAY eventually end.
That's the Republican anti-Obama focused spin machine - just like requesting Rick Scott not discuss decreasing unemployment in Florida because that would help Obama. Politics of omission, just like Romney and Republicans not taking credit for their Affordable Care Act model, dating back to Massachusetts and Newt's plan.
So, I think I'll actually listen to what AAA is currently saying - "The good news is retail gas prices continue to drop and are forecast to retreat throughout the month," said Jessica Brady, AAA spokesperson.
Prices will rise in the future (they may rise today), but stop trying so hard to spin this one way or another.
And if prices do go skyward, that's just one more indication of why we need to get off limited oil reserves as our major energy source. Viable alternative energy source development for transportation has a long lead time. We need to pull together and realize oil really will not last forever.
We need to stop the nonsensical "drill now" rhetoric and get to coming up with real alternative solutions, not a false stop gap political spin measure that's doomed to fail because it's neither real, nor effectively addressing the reality of limited supplies.
If not, we'll continue to remain in Delusional Land, where the UN is taking over the U.S. through Agenda 21, creationism is science, evolution has no scientific basis, Obama was born in Kenya, and global warming is the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people.
Do we move forward together as a country, or remain mired in Delusional Land?
