Affordability Tops Rick Scott's Goals for Florida's Universities

Gov. Rick Scott, expressing concerns about increasing tuition rates at Florida’s universities, presented a list of goals for Florida State University System Board of Governors:

-- Be No. 1 in university and college affordability.

-- Be No. 1 for graduates finding jobs in their fields of study.

-- Be No. 1 in the percentage of students receiving STEM degrees.

-- Have Florida university graduates be ranked No. 1 in preparation for the work force, as named by Florida employers.

-- Be the No. 1 place where taxpayers feel they are getting a good return on their investment in higher education.

“Every Floridian wants the same three things:  for government to make sure it doesn’t increase the cost of living, the opportunity to get a job, and the
opportunity to get good education,” Scott stated in a release following his appearance before the education officials as they kicked off a three-day session in Orlando.

“Florida’s state universities are important to making all three things available to the people of our state.”

The Board of Governors is scheduled to vote on tuition increases for the state's universities on Thursday.

Governor, you've lost these battles before you've started.

Over $1 billion in higher education cuts, plus adding an un-needed new university solely because a powerful Senator wants one.

WHAT A DISASTER!
