Every few years, there’s a movement to replace “The Star-Spangled Banner” as the national anthem -- but these efforts always fail miserably. As hard as it may be to sing, and while it may commemorate a battle in a mostly forgotten war -- the country has done next to nothing to mark the bicentennial of the outbreak of the War of 1812 -- a new poll shows that Americans are solidly behind keeping “The Star-Spangled Banner” as the national anthem.

In a Rasmussen Reports poll unveiled on Wednesday, only 12 percent of Americans want to change the national anthem to another song while 82 percent want to keep Francis Scott Key’s song in place. It’s been the national anthem since 1931.

The poll of 1,000 American adults was taken on June 8-9 and had a margin of error of +/- 3 percent.
