Ann Scott Kicks Off Summer Literacy Tour
Florida's First Lady Ann Scott kicked off her annual summer reading tour on Wednesday in Tallahassee.
The "Summer Literacy Adventure" aims to encourage students to make a reading pledge and visit their local library during the upcoming summer break. Scott will be hosting events at Florida state parks to encourage students to read this summer.
Literacy and reading have been two of Scott's top priorities during her time as First Lady.
"As a mother and grandmother to four young grandchildren, sharing our family’s love for reading is very important to me," Scott said.
The Summer Literacy Adventure is a partnership between Scott, the Florida Department of Education, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and the Florida Lottery.
Commissioner of Education Pam Stewart thanked Scott for her efforts to instill a love of reading for Florida's students.
"The Summer Literacy Adventure is a great opportunity for Florida’s wonderful students to participate in reading activities throughout the summer at our state parks," she said.
