Attorney General: Nurse Charged with Abuse of Disabled Patient
A licensed practical nurse at Florida State Hospital in Florida’s Panhandle has been charged with one count of abuse of a disabled adult at the Panhandle facility, the attorney general’s office announced.
Melody A. Melton, of Blountstown in Calhoun County, was arrested on a felony warrant by the attorney general’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit.
According to the attorney general’s Office, Melton, 45, struck a disabled woman at the mental health facility while attempting to forcibly administer medications to the victim. Melton allegedly held the woman’s nose closed in an attempt to force her mouth open, slapped her across the face, and pulled the victim’s hair.
Charged with one count of abuse of a disabled adult, a third-degree felony, Melton faces up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
