Bill Nelson: Reaffirm Commitment to Space in Recalling Columbia
U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Orlando, called for continued space exploration on the 10th anniversary of the space shuttle Columbia disaster.
Ten years ago today the country was shocked as the space shuttle Columbia disintegrated over the southern United States, Nelson emailed supporters on Friday.
Husbands and wives lost spouses. Kids lost parents. And our nation lost seven explorers who knew that space exploration helps us better understand the universe and our place in it.
I hope youll join me in remembering these fallen heroes. And I hope that, as a nation, we once again renew our commitment to exploring the unknown.
The astronauts who lost their lives knew that exploration pushes the limits of our imaginations and forces us to solve problems never faced before. We see things never seen before. And, we improve our economy and advance technology here at home.
The email was a link to his opinion piece on the direction of NASA that appeared Friday in the Orlando Sentinel.
