Bob Martinez Backs John Legg's State Senate Campaign

With Sen. Jim Norman, R-Tampa, announcing last week that he would not seek another term, the Republican leadership continues to back House Speaker Pro Tempore John Legg, R-Port Richey, to take his place. On Tuesday, Legg announced that former Gov. Bob Martinez, who also served as mayor of Tampa, was backing his Senate bid.

“I share John’s love of public service and know his experience in giving back to his community will give him a solid foundation for success in the Florida Senate,” said Martinez in a statement on Tuesday. “His love for education and helping the businesses and families in this community and our state is refreshing and a necessity for the futures of our many generations to come. District 17 needs a conservative like John Legg in the Senate.

“Having former Governor Martinez’s support is such an honor,” said Legg. “A native of Tampa, he truly understands the conservative needs of our local communities, and I am excited to have the opportunity to bring our common ideals to Tallahassee and focus on job creation, education, and getting our state and country back on track by cutting waste and keeping our taxes low.”
