Connie Mack Offers Qualified Praise for Injunction Blocking Arizona Immigration Law
At least one Florida Republican has some kind words for a U.S. District Court judge placing an injunction on parts of the Arizona immigration law: U.S. Rep. Connie Mack, who has been a vocal critic of the new measure for months.
“I very much agree with parts of the judge’s ruling on the Arizona immigration law, and I disagree with others,” said Mack on Wednesday. “The most obnoxious part of the law – the provision requiring local officials to make judgments based on a ‘reasonable suspicion’ of one’s citizenship status – was simply wrong and un-American. I strongly agree with the judge’s position that some Americans’ liberties would be restricted while others would have little or no chance of being affected."
“I do believe, however, that the judge is mistaken in part of her ruling blocking the provision in the law that made it illegal for undocumented workers to solicit employment,” added Mack. “I have always firmly supported employer verification programs, and I believe that if someone wants to work in the United States, they must be here legally.”
Earlier in the day, Mack sent a letter to all members of Congress asking them to oppose the Arizona law.
