The Daytona Speedway and Slots?

Changes, potentially including legalized gambling, may not be idle talk for the future of Daytona Speedway.

The speedway has requested rezoning changes that would allow 2 million square feet of retail space, 1,785 hotel rooms and 1,600 multifamily residential units on its land straddling International Speedway Boulevard, the Daytona Beach News Journal is reporting.

The speedway also would like space for casino gambling if it's legalized in Florida, the News Journal reported.

“Speedway officials stress everything is very preliminary,” the News Journal reported. “They say what they're doing now is building the foundation with necessary zoning changes to develop the track and property north of International Speedway Boulevard owned by its parent company, International Speedway Corp.”

The Volusia County Council is to discuss the request Thursday.

WE NEED CASINOS FAST PEOPLE HAVE LOST THEIR JOBS, HOUSES, CARS, LIVING IN TENTS AND HAVE THEIR CHILDREN LIVING IN THE STREETS. ITS VERY SAD PARENTS CANT TAKE THEIR CHILDREN TO THE DOCTOR OR DENTIST WHEN THEY NEED IT. CASINOS CREATE LOTS OF JOBS AND PUT ALOT OF PEOPLE TO WORK. HOLLYWOOD FLORIDA GOT STATE REGULATED CASINOS, WHY WERENT WE ALLOWED HERE IN CENTRAL FLORIDA. I THINK THE INTERNET CAFES NEED TO STAY OPEN BECAUSE IF THEY CLOSE THEM ALOT MORE PEOPLE WILL BE JOBLESS. SOME HAVE BEEN ROBBED BUT LOOK AT TV ALOT OF PLACES GET ROBBED EVERYDAY.

I feel that we need to support gambling in Florida. It will increase jobs and the economy which has badly hurt the state of Florida. Instead of people living in Florida and spending money in other states. Why not help Florida. I don't think crime will increase in the state. Just look at all the crime going on now through out the country. I feel basically it is due to unemployment. So why not help the state. Create jobs and pass the bill and maybe it will help shut down the internet cafes making money now. How much of that money is going to the state and creating jobs. None. Get off the pot and help our state
