Dennis Baxley Backs Dave Weldon Over Connie Mack for Senate
While he is an underdog to defeat U.S. Rep. Connie Mack for the Republican nomination to challenge Democrat incumbent U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson in November, former U.S. Rep. Dave Weldon unveiled the support of one of the leading conservatives in the Florida Legislature on Monday -- Rep. Dennis Baxley. R-Ocala.
Baxley, who had been in charge of the state chapter of the Christian Coalition, praised Weldon on Monday as he endorsed him, pointing to his record on guns and social issues.
“Dr. Dave Weldon is a strong defender of Second Amendment rights that Americans hold so dear," Baxley said. “I have absolute confidence that Weldon would be a protector of those rights that are important to stopping violent acts from occurring.
“Those who are defenders of life can have total confidence in Dr. Dave Weldon’s protection of the unborn,” Baxley added. “He is the only candidate in this race who has stood firmly against the forces who support embryonic stem cell research, and he is a defender of the truth that the sanctity of life matters when it comes to the disabled, the unborn and the elderly.”
Baxley insisted on Monday that Weldon has a chance of defeating Mack in the primary next month.
“The results in Florida’s Republican primary for the U.S. Senate are not inevitable,” Weldon maintained. “The elites in Washington are not going to tell us who to elect and Dave Weldon has shown he has a fighting chance and can take this election. On August 14, I will be voting for Dr. Dave Weldon. The establishment was wrong on Charlie Crist and they’re wrong on Connie Mack.”
