Dennis Ross' Soccer Blast: Gitmo No Training Ground for World Cup

Rep. Dennis Ross, R-Lakeland, is turning up the heat on the Guantanamo Bay soccer field.

The chairman of the House Oversight Subcommittee on the Federal Workforce announced Thursday he will introduce the None of Our Funds for the Interest, Exercise or Leisure of Detainees Act (NO FIELD Act).

The bill would instruct the House Budget Committee to reduce the appropriation for the Department of Defense for fiscal year 2013 by $750,000.

If the Pentagon has $750,000 to spend on trails, soccer fields and recreational amenities for terrorists, they obviously dont need that money.Guantanamo Bay is a detention facility for terrorists captured on the battlefield, taking up arms against American forces," Ross said in a statement.

According to the latest reports, 150 former Guantanamo detainees are either "confirmed or suspected of re-engaging in terrorist or insurgent activities."

"Gitmo should not be a place of comfort. It should house the worst of the worst of the worlds terrorists, not be a training ground for the World Cup," Ross said.

On Wednesday, Rep. Gus Bilirakis, R-Palm Harbor, denounced the soccer field funding in a letter to Defense Secretary Leon Panetta.

So far, the administration has not responded.
