Equality Florida Raises $1 Million for Families of Orlando Shooting Victims
Equality Florida, the state's gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender rights group, has raised over $1 million for the families of the victims of the Orlando nightclub shooting which left 50 dead and dozens wounded.
The group set up a GoFundMe page early Sunday. The page quickly went viral and raised over $1 million in just a few hours.
"Regarding distribution of funds, we are working with a team of attorneys and experts, including the National Center for Victims of Crime, which deployed funds in both Chattanooga and Aurora, to ensure funds are distributed correctly," the group wrote.
The City of Orlando had released the names of seven victims at the time of this article's publication, but many more had yet to be named.
The shooting is being considered a terror attack.
Equality Florida will continue to raise money and has been increasing its GoFundMe fundraising goal as each milestone is met. The current fundraising goal is set at $1.5 million.
