Gineen Bresso Raps Wasserman Schultz for Attack on Jeb Bush
A Republican challenger to Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz said she was "shocked, but not surprised" by the Fort Lauderdale Democrat's verbal slap at former Gov. Jeb Bush this week.
Gineen Bresso said, "I am shocked, yet not that surprised, that on the same day that the Labor Department reported that unemployment in the U.S. rose to 8.2 percent, DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz would launch a hollow attack on former Governor Jeb Bush for his successful initiative in recruiting Scripps Research Institute to Florida."
Bresso said Saturday that Wasserman Schultz's broadside "illustrates just how out of touch [she] truly is when it comes to the issues facing Floridians."
On Friday, Wasserman Schultz confronted Bush at a House Budget Committee about the state's investment in the Scripps Research Institute in Palm Beach County. She claimed that the incentive package cost the state more than $1 million per job.
“We tried it your way,” she lectured. “The Scripps deal and promises of massive job creation were massively overblown.”
Bush defended the package as a good long-term investment that “got hit by the downturn of the economy.”
Bresso, a former Bush and Obama appointee to the U.S. Elections Assistance Commission, resigned her position to return to South Florida to vie for the GOP nomination in the 23rd Congressional District.

It's a legitimate question: Is Scripps worth the greater than $1 billion in public money that it receives directly and indirectly from both the state and Palm Beach County.
By the time they finish bonding their share, Palm Beach County alone will spend around $600 million for the 500+ jobs Scripps guaranteed. In a county of about 1.2 million people, that works out to a public subsidy averaging about $2,000 per houshold of four.
So, it's a legitimate question, ESPECIALLY if you're a Tea Party type and supposedly believe in public fiscal restraint.
Do you see the Scripps' enormous public subsidy as a fiscal boondoggle, or are you a just another hypocrite to core Tea Party fiscal use of public money constraint beliefs.
