Hearings Head to August on Gretna Barrel Racing


The future of barrel racing as a contest to be bet upon wasn’t decided last week and hearings on the dispute will continue in August.

Four days of testimony before the Florida Division of Administrative Hearings ended June 29 without any determination if Gretna Racing LLC can continue to use barrel races as pari-mutuel heats to fulfill the requirement for its quarter horse racing and poker room licenses, according to Bloodhorse.com.

The Florida Quarter Horse Racing Association and the Florida Quarter Horse Breeders and Owners Association are contesting the licenses issued to Gretna Racing for its Gadsden County tribal resort last year by the Florida Division of Pari-Mutuel Wagering.
