Peter Allen, one of the founders of the Independence Party who is now running for governor on that party’s line, has named John Zanni as his running mate for lieutenant governor. One of the founders of the party who currently serves as the chair in Hillsborough County, Zanni is from Brandon.

Allen, a small-business owner, and Zanni founded the Independence Party as an alternative to the two major parties. While the Independence Party of Minnesota, best known for backing Jesse Ventura, helped with some of the paperwork at the founding, the Independence Party of Florida is not affiliated with any national parties.
