Internal Beaven Poll Shows Mica Vulnerable and Lots of Voter Anxiety

Democrat Heather Beaven, a Navy veteran who is taking on U.S. Rep. John Mica, is touting the results of a poll her campaign commissioned from SEA.

While the poll’s margin of error is high at 4.9 percent and shows that Mica’s approval of 56 percent remains fairly strong in this anti-incumbent year, the poll also reveals Beaven has an opportunity. Voters like her biography more than Mica’s and only 32 percent favor his re-election while 47 percent think it’s time for someone else.

The most interesting part of the poll is that only 21 percent of the district thinks the country is going in the right direction. That indicates that there is more than just anger at the Obama administration or the Bush administration or Congress. Maybe anger is not the right word for the electorate -- maybe it is anxiety. It’s not a word I usually associate with the 7th District-Daytona Beach, Palm Coast, DeLand and St. Augustine, but there is a grave concern building there about our nation’s future.
