Marco Rubio Welcomes Joe Biden by Attacking Stimulus and Obamacare
All eyes will be on Hollywood on Friday when Vice President Joe Biden helps U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek, the Democratic nominee in the U.S. Senate race -- including those of the Republican in the race, former House Speaker Marco Rubio.
"Every time the president or vice president sets foot in Florida, we are reminded of their unfulfilled promises to tackle unemployment and the resulting debt from their failed stimulus experiment,” said Rubio early on Friday.
Rubio used the opportunity to blast Meek and Gov. Charlie Crist, who is running without party affiliation, for backing the federal stimulus.
"Nineteen months ago, Governor Crist and Congressman Meek both put their faith in Washington politicians to spend money we don't have in the false hopes of creating jobs,” added Rubio. “Today, Vice President Biden should experience firsthand the disappointment and frustration that Floridians feel about high unemployment and a business environment that is paralyzed by uncertainty about their taxes rising on Jan. 1, the dangerously high debt, navigating through Obamacare and whatever grand Washington scheme is being cooked up next.
"In my own campaign, I have offered over 80 ideas to help entrepreneurs create jobs, promote Gulf Coast recovery, cut spending, make health care more affordable, improve our education system, preserve America's role in the world, honor our commitment to our veterans, protect seniors, and address the agricultural community's needs,” continued Rubio. "Some of these ideas are immediate priorities, like preserving the existing tax rates so that taxpayers aren't hit with an automatic tax hike in 2011. Some are as simple as eroding the paralyzing uncertainty that exists for entrepreneurs by doing no harm and guaranteeing that bad ideas like cap-and-trade or card check never see the light of day. Others entail rolling back the excesses of the past 20 months, starting with a repeal and replacement of Obamacare and ending wasteful stimulus spending. Others are more forward-looking and entail measures like a balanced budget amendment and reforming entitlements that will show Americans -- and our foreign debt holders -- that we are serious about controlling spending.
"As a whole, they represent my vision of what it will take to reclaim America from the Washington politicians in both parties who have taken us in the wrong direction,” concluded Rubio. “I'm the only candidate in this race who stands for these things."
