NBA Star Dwyane Wade Supports Kendrick Meek
Dwyane Wade of the Miami Heat wants to give Kendrick Meek the ball.
The NBA superstar sent out an e-mail on Wednesday on behalf of U.S. Rep. Meek, the Democratic nominee in the U.S. Senate race, and will be holding an early voting event with the candidate on Thursday.
“Kendrick has always fought to give our kids better schools and access to the health care they need,” wrote Wade. “In my foundation, I've been proud to work on the same kinds of issues. Reaching a kid who needs guidance is even more rewarding than finishing a fast break.
“Kendrick is also leading the way on helping Haiti recover from the earthquake,” added Wade. “Right after that disaster, I worked with Alonzo Mourning to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for survivors, so I know the importance of having strong partners in government to make sure the aid gets to people who need it most. It's clear to me that Kendrick understands the issues I care about, and I want to help put him in the Senate.
“It's the fourth quarter and the clock is running out,” wrote Wade. “Kendrick needs all of us in the game to swish the buzzer beater.”
Not only is it late in the fourth quarter, but Meek is trailing badly. A poll released by Quinnipiac University found Meek with 15 percent -- under a third of Republican Marco Rubio’s support at 42 percent and less than half of the 35 percent backing Gov. Charlie Crist, who is running with no party affiliation.
