Nick Zoller Launches Bid for Bill Young's Congressional Seat
Republican political consultant Nick Zoller declared on Sunday that he is entering the contest for the congressional seat representing Pinellas County. Former state Rep. Larry Crow also launched his candidacy over the weekend. The seat is currently held by U.S. Rep. Bill Young, R-Fla., who announced last week he will not seek re-election in 2014.
“A few weeks ago as I began to look into the possibility of a run for the U.S. House of Representatives, I thought about why I was considering running for office,” Zoller wrote in the letter announcing his candidacy. “My thoughts led me to a simple quote from my grandfather: ‘In America we’ve never bowed to fear, because fear is the enemy of freedom.’
“In the legislative battles over the last several years in Washington, we see more often than not that our elected leaders fear taking decisive action to solve the problems of this generation,” Zoller added. “They fear the political ramifications, they fear losing power. I believe Pinellas County and our nation deserve a fighter in Washington willing to make the hard decisions and cast the tough votes, not because it is politically expedient, but because it is the right thing to do.
“Like many Pinellas County residents, I am concerned about the condition and course of government at all levels and the troubled state of our economy. I'm not willing to let our country, state or county fall further into disrepair without fighting to fix the problems," Zoller wrote. “That’s why, after much consideration, I have filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission to seek the Republican nomination for Florida’s 13th Congressional District -- and today I begin a campaign of ideas, of bold reforms that will correct our nation’s adrift trajectory.
“My candidacy is about more than me – it is about the future of our nation and the future of the Republican Party,” Zoller insisted. “While I have been humbled by support from around the nation, this race is about Pinellas County and effective, energetic, solutions-based representation for our community, in Washington. Leaders of the past have taken bold action in defense of American exceptionalism before -- join me in being bold once again. Our nation is too dear, and our freedom too sweet to stand by idly while politicians in Washington drive the country to default, not just on our debt, but on the promise of the American dream.”
Zoller has helped on Republican campaigns across the nation, including those of U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss of Georgia and former U.S. Sen. Scott Brown of Massachusetts.
