Occupy Tallahassee Planning Protest at Florida's Capitol

The Occupy Wall Street movement is heading to Florida’s Capitol.

Occupy Tallahassee has posted on its Facebook page that “peaceful protests” against “corporate greed” are planned for Oct. 14 and 15 at the state Capitol.

With an eye on the evening news cycle, the Occupy Tallahassee webpage advised those who intend to join the protest to be on the lawn before 5 p.m.

“As we work on acquiring our permit, we will protest daily until we may occupy a park nearby,” the group states on its website Occupytallahassee.org. “Currently, we are working on collecting supplies as well as connections with the surrounding businesses, so we may use the bathroom and find electricity.”

The weekend event is being coordinated, via Facebook and Meetup, with similar demonstrations globally.

The Tallahassee group has started holding meetings at the Farside – a “not-for-profit, all-ages musical performance collective” located on Railroad Avenue in downtown Tallahassee – to plan the event.
