Orlando-Sanford Airport Wants TSA Gropers Off the Job
Orlando-Sanford International Airport struck a small blow for harried travelers this week when it announced it plans to fire its TSA security screeners.
Responding to rising passenger complaints about those invasive "enhanced pat-downs," Sanford airport officials want to replace groping TSA crews with approved private contractors.
That switch doesn't amount to much, TSA says, because replacement workers still must abide by TSA rules.
But if ousting TSA staffers spreads to other, larger airports, the feds may finally begin to feel the heat. And if private contractors bridle at the TSA rules, substantive changes could result. That's the hope, anyway.
This would be really big news if Sanford's much bigger neighbor, Orlando International Airport, were to raise a ruckus.

Much ado about nothing. It will just be private contrators doing the exact same screening and this airport will then be assuming liability in the event something bad happens. Oops. And guess who pays for lost and damaged items? Oops. Way to go smart guys! San Francisco is privatized also. You might look into how things are there. I can tell you since I flew through there a couple weeks ago -- they are no different. TSA sets the rules -- not the contractors. And TSA provides oversight to ensure they are complying with those rules, and if not, guess who gets fined? Oops.
