Rick Scott, Nikki Haley 'Talking Smack,' Wager on FSU-Clemson

Saturday’s high stakes gridiron match-up between Florida State University and Clemson is reaching into the political world.

While Saturday’s game is critical for the Atlantic Division standings of the ACC, with the impact stretching beyond the East Coast in the national title game picture, Gov. Rick Scott has wagered South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley a Florida key lime pie against a South Carolina barbecue upon the outcome of the prime-time contest.

“Our high schools, universities and NFL teams have proven time and time again that Florida is the No. 1 state for football, and there is no doubt the Noles will win this weekend,” Scott stated in a release from the governor’s office. “I really appreciate Governor Haley taking part in this wager and look forward to enjoying some barbecue from her great state.”

The game is bringing ESPN’s Saturday morning “College GameDay” to Tallahassee in the runup to the game between the fifth-ranked Seminoles and No. 11 Tigers, both undefeated at 3-0. ABC will broadcast the football contest starting at 8 p.m.

“With college football season in full swing and two South Carolina teams ranked in the top 10, it was great to hear from my friend and fellow college football fan Governor Rick Scott,” Haley stated in the release.

“When he called and started talking smack about the Clemson-Florida State game, I told him I had confidence in Coach Dabo Swinney and the Tigers, who represent our state well and make us proud, and I was happy to put a friendly wager on the game.”
