Rick Scott Orders Flags Lowered for Steven P. Stevens II
Gov. Rick Scott has ordered state and national flags lowered to half-staff at the Tallahassee City Hall, Leon County Courthouse and Florida’s Capitol on Friday, July 13, for Private First Class Steven P. Stevens II.
Stevens II, 23, of Tallahassee, died on June 22 while conducting operations in the Helmand province, Afghanistan.
He was assigned to 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.
Stevens, who grew up in Detroit, attended Florida A&M University in Tallahassee on a swimming scholarship before joining the Marines in 2009. He deployed to Afghanistan on March 21.
