Rick Scott: Remaining U.S. Senate Candidates Must Focus on Jobs

As the field of Republican candidates seeking to unseat U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Orlando, narrows with the exit of former U.S. Sen. George LeMieux, Gov. Rick Scott still isn’t offering hints that he’s ready to make any endorsement.

“I’ve only run once, but it’s a lot of work to run in these races so I wish Senator LeMieux success,” Scott said following an appearance before the Rotary Club of Tallahassee at the Leon County Civic Center on Wednesday.

“And I’m hopeful that the individuals that are still in the race, they focus on jobs because that is the biggest issue we have.”

LeMieux on Wednesday ended his bid for the Republican nomination and threw his support behind U.S. Rep. Connie Mack, R-Fort Myers.

Former U.S. Rep. Dave Weldon and retired Army officer and businessman Mike McCalister remain in the contest.
