Rick Scott Replaces Suspended Madison School Board Member

Gov. Rick Scott named Walton “Fain” Poppell to the Madison County School Board, replacing  Abra Hill “Tina” Johnson.

Poppell, 67, of Madison, has been the owner of Poppell Land Surveyors since 1976. Previously, he served on the Madison County Planning and Zoning Board from 2008 to 2011 and on the Madison County Board of County Commissioners from 1988 to 1992.

Johnson was suspended by Scott in November after being charged, along with Supervisor of Elections Jada Woods Williams and six others -- including Johnson’s husband, in connection with alleged voter fraud that allowed Johnson to win a runoff election last year in the county of nearly 20,000 along the Georgia state line.
