Rick Scott Suspends Councilman Charged with Grand Theft
Gov. Rick Scott has suspended a town councilman in Jackson County who has been accused of selling the cars of two town residents without their knowledge.
Fred Lee Jones, 65, of Malone, was removed from his elected seat after being charged with two counts of grand theft of a motor vehicle on April 24.
According to the Jackson County sheriff's affidavit, the suspended councilman called an auto dealer in Donalsonville, Ga., to pick up a car down the street from his home in March and from another street in August 2011. Jones allegedly received $227 for one of the vehicles and $319 for the other.
