RNC Chairman Reince Priebus Issues Call to 2012 Republican National Convention

Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Reince Priebus on Friday issued the following Call to the 2012 Republican National Convention:

"On behalf of the Republican National Committee, I am proud to officially issue the Call to the 2012 Convention. The Call is an invitation to the Republican voters of America to participate in our party's process for nominating our candidates for president and vice president by selecting delegates to the Republican National Convention to be held in August at the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa Bay, Fla.

“I would like to thank Priscilla Rakestraw for her hard work as the chair of the committee on the Call, as well as the 168 Republican National Committee members who helped to approve the final Call to the convention.

"Under the leadership of the Committee on Arrangements, headed by Chairman Alec Poitevint, preparations for a world-class convention are well under way. When our convention begins on Aug. 27, our 2,286 delegates and 50,000 convention-goers will find an event worthy of the next president of the United States.

"The St. Pete Times Forum will be transformed to offer an unparalleled convention experience, while the neighboring Tampa Bay Convention Center will provide the media workspace.

"We look forward to welcoming our delegates and attendees to Tampa Bay in August, as we continue our important work of sending a Republican president to the White House."

The media continue to obsess over the fact that so many Republican Candidates for President have taken over the spotlight of voter support in polls and no one seems able to rise to the front and stay there. They conclude, inaccurately I believe, that no one excites those opposed to Obama.

The reality is that anyone the Republicans put forward against Obama is seen as a good opponent. The fact is that Obama has lowered the bar so far that nearly anyone put forward as an opponent to Obama is thought to be worthy of strong consideration. That is the reason that Ron Paul is gaining broader support in spite of his perilous foreign policy positions. The opposition to Obama's policies and positions is so strong that Ron Paul's extreme positions on the economy, etc. "scratch people where they itch."

I wonder if anyone in the media will ever consider this analysis of the situation in the Republican Race.
