Seminole Physician Sentenced in Pain Pill Operation

A Seminole County physician has been sentenced to 25 years in state prison for trafficking in prescription pain pills including oxycodone.

The attorney general's office announced that Jose Carlos Menendez-Campos, who had been working out of a Physician Care Associates office in Poinciana, must also pay a $500,000 fine for the investigation and prosecutorial costs.

Campos pled guilty last October to conspiring to traffic in 28 grams or more of oxycodone, a year after being arrested following an investigation jointly conducted by the Osceola County Investigative Bureau, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, the Sarasota Police Department and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

"Their investigation revealed that Campos was selling prescriptions for large amounts of oxycodone, a powerful painkiller, to a group of associates who would then fill the prescriptions and distribute the narcotics on the streets of Sarasota," the attorney general's office stated in a release.
