Targeting 'Terror' Imam, Protesters Want Margate Mosque Shut Down

A South Florida imam and his Margate mosque will be the target of a street protest Tuesday night (June 7).

Izhar Khan, who has been called "a bright young star" by the president of the Masjid Jamaat al-Mumineed mosque, was arrested and charged last month with conspiracy to finance the Taliban in Pakistan. His father, also a South Florida imam, was also charged, along with two other family members.

Calling for the mosque's closure, a coalition of patriot groups and pro-Israel demonstrators said they will protest outside the building at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

“Given the nature of the arrests, and given the fact that the president of the mosque, as well as other mosque-goers, continue to support the Khans, we believe it is necessary and warranted that the U.S. government moves to shut down the mosque," said Joe Kaufman, chairman of Americans Against Hate.

Danita Kilcullen, director of Tea Party Fort Lauderdale, said, "Local citizens are outraged. How can this mosque be allowed to remain open?"

“Those of us who work and live in Margate stand behind our troops in our fight against terrorism, and we must eradicate any group, including the MJAM, that supports the Taliban and other terrorist organizations,” said Patrick Laffey of Citizens of Margate.

The Sunni mosque is located at 3222 Holiday Springs Blvd., Margate.

To be a Christian is to be Christ-like. Christ submitted himself to God (Matthew 26:39). Muslim is an Arabic word which means "someone who submits to God". Hence Christ was a Muslim, and if your a "Christian", then you're also a Muslim. Know yourself... and others.

To all the Ignormus Idiots like "G Man" here: are you fools aware of the fact that Islam existed before 9/11? This religion has been around for over a thousand years. You know Algebra and have a watch to tell time because these are among the many that these folks "Musim" invented them. So just grow up a little, learn to read history. I live in NYC with Muslim neighbors, who are some of the nicest people you haven't yet to meet (because you're so negative towards them). They were the same people before and after my brother died in WTC in 9/11. So get out of your little cocoon and get to know them instead of hating.

Pointless... members of America Against Hate have so much Hate, it is impossible to reason with them. We live in a society of "GUILTY until proven Innocent". So much for the constitution, we threw that out when we gave up our freedom by passing the patriot act. We are going the way of the Romans, greatest empire/nation in the world, reduced to nothing because of our hate and arrogance. Very sad. The Koran does not teach hate, but then again, there is no shortage of people with tiny minds on both sides that love to take things out of context. How many of you have really read the Koran yourself?

that's a great idea. Shut down the whole mosque for the act of one individual. Then we should shut down Virgina Tech because a student went on a rampage. We should shut down Columbine for the act of two students. We should shut down the white house for the crimes committed by Bush and Rumsfeld for declaring an illegal war on Iraq. Come on people.

You are in deed a very logical and reasonable man with good conscience. American is in dire need of people like you - otherwise this great nation will be in ruins like the ancient Empiires of Rome and Persia. With 1/3 of the American budget going for war and killing in the name of national defense, and $14 trillion dollars of national debt, America is not far from ruins... I am so saddened by the amount of hate among the American people these days toward the tiny Muslim minority, its unconscionable...

Most interesting!

Blogger Kenric Ward is using the pages of "Sunshine News" to cover the fact that this is a Blog pretending to be real news. He is also using "Sunshine News" pages to promote his own bias and by publishing the address of the Mosque, he is also advertising the "protest" planned for this evening.

We don't yet know whether the people charges are actually guilty of sending money to terrorists, or, whether they are targeted and persecuted under the sections of the USAPATRIOT Act that very conveniently allows law-enforcement agencies to successfully target Muslims.

One section of the USAveryunPATRIOT Act, makes it a crime to "directly or indirectly provide aid and comfort to terrorists". This means that if I send $10 to a charity that is providing food and other provisions to widows and orphans and if any of the people helped, include some widow or orphan of someone deemed to be a "trrrrst", then I am guilty of the crime of supporting "terror".
The definition of a "trrrrst" includes not only those actually involved in "terrorism", but also anyone accused or suspected of "terrorism" including those unfortunates killed by US drones.

The Republican and Tea Parties have made the most unfortunate choice of promoting fear and hate against Islam and Muslims; we Muslims can be certain of one fact; wherever these two parties prevail, Islam and Muslims WILL be targeted. The corollary of this fact is that wherever Democratic Party prevails, they will be too gutless to stand up for the rights of Muslims and to stop the Tea-Republican [filtered word]-step against Muslims.

As the spiritual leader of the nation's largest Syrian Sephardic community for decades, Rabbi Saul Kassin has met with heads of state and performed countless charitable acts.

But the Brooklyn rabbi was also accused of using his charity to transmit millions of dollars while keeping a 10 percent cut in his effort to help others avoid paying federal taxes.

Kassin, who pleaded guilty in March to operating an unlicensed money-transmitting business

I too am shocked that this article only serves as a mouthpiece for two known extremists in South Florida. The good will which this mosque has created in the community is enormous---during the last hurricane their members provided food and water to the elderly residents of the adjacent Holiday Springs apartments, generously and compassionately sharing their time, resources and the fact that the mosque had its own generator. Why is this information missing?

Having been in Saudi Arabia numerous times, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and many other Muslim nations, I am amused. If a church in any of these nations, and many others, was aggressively promoting Christianity or any anti-Islamic position, it would be shut done without question. If the Muslim community would police their own radical element, respect and peace would result.

Sociologist: Every 5 Minutes a Christian Is Martyred
ROME, JUNE 3, 2011 (Zenit.org).- A sociologist representing a European security organization says that the number of Christians killed each year for their faith is so high that it calculates to one martyr's life being taken every five minutes.

Massimo Introvigne of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) reported this data at a conference on Christian-Jewish-Muslim interfaith dialogue, which concluded today in Hungary. The conference was sponsored by the Hungarian presidency of the Council of the European Union, and included a variety of high-level representatives from the three monotheistic religions, as well as political and social leaders.

Introvigne reported that Christians killed every year for their faith number 105,000, and that number includes only those put to death simply because they are Christians. It does not count the victims of civil or international wars.

"If these numbers are not cried out to the world, if this slaughter is not stopped, if it is not acknowledged that the persecution of Christians is the first worldwide emergency in the matter of violence and religious discrimination, the dialogue between religions will only produce beautiful conferences but no concrete results," he stated.

Egyptian diplomat Aly Mahmoud said that in his country laws have been passed that will protect Christian minorities, for example, prosecuting those who give speeches that incite hatred and banning hostile crowds outside churches.

"However, the danger is that many Christian communities in the Middle East will die from emigration, because all Christians, feeling threatened, will flee," he said.

The diplomat suggested Europe prepare for "a new wave of emigration, this time from Christians fleeing the persecutions."

For his part, Metropolitan Hilarion Alfeyev, chairman for the Russian Orthodox patriarchate's Department of External Church Relations, reminded that "at least 1 million" Christian victims of persecutions are children.

Let me state for the record. The Tea Party movement was started and remains committed to three basic core principles. They are Limited Constitutional Government, Fiscal Responsibility, Free Market Society.

I do not see anything about shutting down churches. Having said that, I must say this. Just like you cannot judge one Mosque by the actions of one or two members or leaders, you cannot judge all Tea Party groups by the actions of one or two groups or leaders of a particular group.

Do not judge us all by the actions of a few.

Anyone, regardless of the faith, who is convicted (not just accused but proven guilty beyond reasonable doubts as guaranteed by our Constitution) is not a reason to attack the rest of peaceful congregation of that convicted person!. If that is true then all churches, synagogues, temples, and other places of worship should be shut down because there is always someone who will commit murder and act of terrorism in the U.S.A.

This article did not quote the other sides of the story. Shame on the author for providing a one-sided version of the "terror" charges and the opinions of the anti-mosque protesters. Why wasn't any member of the mosque interviewed? Why wasn't the alibi of the indited imam explained? Why isn't the reader allowed to make an educated decision of whether or not Joe Kaufman is full of garbage this time around, as he usually is? Shame, shame on Sunshine State News for publishing this--it speaks wonders for the ethics (or, rather, the lack thereof) of your staff. "Patriot" groups? Is that a fact? They're objectively patriots? You don't think that phrase requires any qualification in this case? Patriots to what, exactly? Because by my reading of our constitution, anyone who would seek to close down a house of worship just because it's different than their own is a traitor to the United States, not a "patriot".

What nonsense! I guess we should close the churches that Timothy McVeigh and the people who kill abortion doctors belong to. Guilt by association is an insidious form of stereotyping when people do not know many people of the group discussed. We need to protect freedom of religion in this country and not close houses of worship of those who use their religion as an excuse to support terrorist groups.

This kind of nonsense from Tea party extremists is what has led me to keep away from them. I am a Republican to the core and generations of my family have served our country to defend our Constitution and the rights given to all in this country, and I cannot believe what Joe Kaufman and Danita Kilcullen are saying and doing. Does this mean that whatever Christian group and church Timothy McVeigh belonged should have been banned? Does this mean that the synagogue that Rabbi Meir Kahane (Founder of the JDL) belonged should have been banned?

These teabaggers so not represent the American values of life, LIBERTY and pursuit of happiness. First they want to only guarantee these freedoms only to people they see worthy of it, which is only those that agree with their twisted ideology. Second, they stand for the opposite of liberty because they want to limit and now eliminate the right of people to freely practice their with. Lastly, all they pursue is nothing but hate NOT happiness. They're constantly angry at their fellow countrymen because they don't agree with them. It is unfortunate that if someone is alleged to be committing a crime we conclude and hold all congregations accountable. Our actions in US have impacts worldwide as Muslims and Christians live in almost all countries (in some Muslims are in majority while in some Christians are in majority). We should not forget the religion of Hitler who killed six million Jews (not a few hundred or thousand) and the Pope did not speak against him. Turkey, a Muslim country gave refuge to Jews at that time. Muslims, Christians and Jews have to live together in USA. Creating hateful situation will not help our nation.
After hearing so many comments that Quran gives orders to kill so often, I searched for the word “kill” in Bible and found that it orders killing in many conditions too ( one should go to an on-line Bible and search for word “kill”). I wonder why no one discusses about instructions to “kill” in Bible.
