Terry Jones Now Says Quran-Burning Suspended, Not Canceled

Pastor Terry Jones of the Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville announced late on Thursday that he was reconsidering canceling the Quran-burning event that was scheduled to be held on Saturday. Instead, he said it was only suspended.

While he had agreed to cancel the controversial event, saying he had been assured that a deal was in place to move a mosque away from where the World Trade Center stood in New York, Jones now said that it was obvious he was lied to by Imam Muhammad Musri of the Islamic Society of Central Florida who had claimed to act as a go-between between Jones and Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf who is leading efforts to build the mosque in New York close to the site of the 9/11 attacks.

"Given what we are now hearing, we are forced to rethink our decision," said Jones. "So as of right now, we are not canceling the event, but we are suspending it."
