USF Students Honor Sen. Mike Fasano for Poly Split Fight
State Sen. Mike Fasano, New Port Richey, was named “2012 Outstanding Student Advocate” by the University of South Florida student body.
During the 2012 session, Fasano had opposed the separation of the University of South Florida’s branch campus in Lakeland into the independent Florida Polytechnic University, which was also opposed by the students.
Fasano also fought university budget cuts during the session.
“We wish to recognize you because you were one of the students’ biggest advocates over the past year through the difficult legislative session we faced,” former USF Student Body President Matthew Diaz stated in a release. “Furthermore, you listened to our students and their concerns and consistently and tirelessly worked on our behalf.”
