The president of a Panhandle construction company was arrested for falsifying payroll information to avoid workers’ compensation premiums, following an investigation by the state Department of Financial Services’ Division of Insurance Fraud.

Florida Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater announced the arrest of Randall Morton Seltzer, 43, president of Navarre Industries Inc.

The Senate released an amended map Saturday that leadership believes will meet the constitutional defects found earlier this month by the state Supreme Court.

“The districts were redrawn, along with any affected districts, in accordance with constitutional standards as defined by the Supreme Court,” stated Senate President-designate Don Gaetz, R-Niceville, the chairman of the Senate Reapportionment Committee, in a release.

Three bills that would keep donations to publicly owned performing arts centers and the Florida Historic Capitol anonymous and exempt some biotech research meeting information from the state’s Sunshine Law have reached the governor’s desk.

Senate Bill 1856 exempts discussions and recommendations of applications for biomedical research grants submitted through the James and Esther King Biomedical Research and the William G. “Bill” Bankhead Jr. and David Coley Cancer Research programs.

Legislators have formally sent the Eric Brody bill, SB 4, a priority of Senate President Mike Haridopolos, R-Merritt Island, to the governor.

Gov. Rick Scott has 15 days, until March 30, to sign the bill that would provide $10.75 million to Brody.

Born, 25, of Niceville, was one of two soldiers killed Feb. 23 in Afghanistan during protests outside a U.S. base in the Khogyani District in Nangarhar Province over the American military’s burning of Qurans.

Don’t call the Florida Supreme Court if you have a question about redistricting.

The court posted a document Tuesday on its website advising anyone with a question about last Friday’s ruling on House and Senate redistricting maps to write the court in Tallahassee

“The Code of Judicial Conduct governing behavior by judges forbids the justices of the Florida Supreme Court to discuss pending cases with the public,” the document states. “Please do not call the court to speak with a justice about the redistricting case.”
