Please, Senator Arthenia Joyner, PLEASE, refrain from addressing another member of the Florida Legislature as your “homey.” Especially if you are referring to white-as-Wonder-Bread dudes like Representatives Dwight Dudley and Carl Zimmermann.

Alex Sink was given a standing ovation tonight at the Hillsborough County Kennedy King Dinner. And that was before she delivered a moving speech, make that eulogy, about her late husband, former gubernatorial candidate Bill McBride.

I won’t pretend to know what is Sink’s mindset about running for Governor in 2014.  I won’t pretend to know Sink’s mindset — period.

Whoever was responsible for printing the program for the Hillsborough County Kennedy King Dinner should be shot — but only after first learning how to spell Charlie Crist’s name.

It’s Charlie Crist, you numbskulls, not Christ.

Little more than a week after the end of the legislative session, Republicans in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties head to the polls Tuesday to choose a nominee to replace the late Rep. Clay Ford who died in March.

With less than four days before the special election in House District 2, the fur is really starting to fly.

Earlier this week, supporters of Mike Hill took several swings at Ed Gray and Jack Nobles. Now, Gray’s supporters are firing back. Two days ago,voters started to receive in the mail a flyer from Nature Coast Conservatives bashing Hill for not living in the district and for receiving over $35,000 in campaign contributions from the insurance industry.

First, the official news: Motorcycle enthusiast Steve Galvin has filed to run for the District 8 seat on the St. Petersburg City Council.

And now, for the word of advice to not only Mr. Galvin, but to all prospective candidates everywhere.

The party circuit has slowed, there are fewer lights burning into the night at the Capitol and the traffic is (a little bit) better.

And with the Legislature heading out of town after the two-month session’s largely successful conclusion, news in Tallahassee has slowed to a trickle.

As Dan Frommer observes, “it doesn’t get more clear than this”:

Rep. Ralph Hall “has already smashed the record for the oldest member of the U.S. House of Representatives, but he doesn’t intend to quit now,” the Houston Chronicle reports. The 90-year-old Republican lawmaker announced he will seek another term.

You just have to read the back-and-forth between Senator Bill Nelson and Times reporter Alex Leary as Leary attempts to get a straight answer out of Nelson about whether the 70 year-old will run for Governor of Florida in 2014.

With The Pier scheduled to close at the end of May, it’s time to – well – party like there’s no tomorrow.
