Billboard firm still has permits to cut trees in violation of state law

TALLAHASSEE | Each of the 110 tree-cutting permits the state granted to a Panhandle billboard company in “flagrant violation of the law” are still active, which allows the firm to continue to cut state-owned trees and vegetation as needed to make room for its billboards.

And the state legislator who helped the deal said Thursday that the Florida Department of Transportation should force the company to pay up to $4 million in fees and take down 56 older signs.
