House Judiciary gives ‘OK’ to school prayer bill
TALLAHASSEE — A school prayer bill is headed to a final vote in the Florida House, after a panel of lawmakers signed off on the measure Wednesday morning.
The bill, SB 98, would permit individual school boards to adopt standards for how and when students in public schools could lead public prayer at school events, even mandatory events like student assemblies. The prayer would have to be initiated and delivered by students, with no involvement by faculty or staff.
