Nelson wants more flexibility for contraception rule
WASHINGTON — U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson of Florida is among several Democrats rebelling against a new rule by the White House that would require health insurers — including those run by Catholic institutions — to include birth control at no cost.
Here’s a statement released by a Nelson spokesman:
“The federal government already is making an exception for churches. And Sen. Nelson thinks there should be an exception for church-affiliated organizations. It’s a matter of religious freedom.
