TAGS: North
Floridians will see fewer inmate work squads alongside highways picking up trash, trimming trees and filling potholes over the next year. The Florida Department of Corrections cut 71 work squads statewide to deal with a $25 million budget cut.Department officials said most of the cut - about $20 million - will be covered by closing 15 prison dormitories and opening the 2,000-bed Blackwater River Correctional Facility in Santa Rosa County for adult males later this year.
