Gov. Charlie Crist, flanked by Attorney General Bill McCollum, Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink and Agriculture and Consumer Services Commissioner Charles Bronson, presided over one of the last meetings of the Florida Cabinet Tuesday, tackling a jump in sinkhole claims and a proposed development in Polk County that led to a small flap with the Department of Community Affairs.

Some 200,000 homeowners -- including thousands in Florida -- will share in a $108 million settlement announced Monday by the Federal Trade Commission.

Countrywide Home Loans, a subsidiary of Bank of America, agreed to pay to settle FTC charges that the company collected excessive fees from mortgage holders struggling to keep their homes.

Former Florida Republican Party Chairman Jim Greer pushed back Thursday against state GOP officials, threatening to sue the party to comply with terms of a severance package which officials say was never properly completed.

Greer’s attorney, Damon Chase of Lake Mary, has a seven-page agreement signed by Greer and top party leaders, dated Jan. 4, that would have paid him $11,250 monthly for 11 months. In turn, Greer was to step down as chairman.

Attorney General Bill McCollum declared Tuesday there is "no benefit" to the federal health care legislation supported by the Obama administration and invited attorneys general from around the nation to join him in preparing to challenge the policy on constitutional grounds.

“There is no benefit to this bill,” McCollum said of the pending health care reform. “I can’t conceive of any.”
