Former Republican Party of Florida Chairman Jim Greer, whom Gov. Charlie Crist hand picked to lead the party, is the subject of a criminal investigation for authorizing a sweetheart deal between the party and a company in which he owned a majority interest.

On Tuesday, current RPOF Chairman Sen. John Thrasher, of Jacksonville, released an independent audit of the RPOF that he had ordered after taking over the state party.

Attorney General Bill McCollum's lawsuit against the federal government's newly enacted health-care program has drawn political fire as a costly quixotic venture.

State Sen. Dan Gelber, who is running for McCollum's job, calls the litigation "frivolous" and "destructive to the office."

Gelber, a lawyer from Delray Beach, said he would not have brought the suit, and joins fellow Democrats from around the state in slighting its prospects for success.

THE CAPITAL, TALLAHASSEE, March 26, 2010.....The battle over the nation’s health care system that has consumed Washington, D.C. for more than a year moved to the states this week, lead by one state in particular: Florida.

Attorney General and likely Republican gubernatorial nominee Bill McCollum suited up for a healthy legal fight over the recently approved the federal plan and lawmakers waged battles in committees and on the floor of the Senate that echoed the contentious health care debate in Congress.

Florida remains the political frontline in the battle on health care.

As Florida Republicans in Washington demand the repeal of the new health-care reform law, Democrats in Florida blast Attorney General Bill McCollum’s lawsuit challenging the law's constitutionality.

U.S. Rep. Connie Mack, R-Florida, introduced a bill in Congress to repeal health-care reforms that President Barack Obama signed into law on Tuesday.

It's a question increasingly asked, a sort of Internet Age social networking parlour game question: Who has the most friends or followers?

Could it be one of the candidates for U.S. Senate: Charlie Crist, Marco Rubio or Kendrick Meek?  Or, perhaps a gubernatorial candidate: Alex Sink, Bill McCollum or Paula Dockery?  One might even venture to guess it's former Gov. Jeb Bush.

Within hours of the U.S. House passing health care reform legislation Sunday night, Republicans in Florida began mobilizing to push back against the new federal mandate.

Republicans, with Attorney General Bill McCollum leading the charge, are preparing to specifically challenge the federal mandate that every citizen have health insurance coverage.

Last week, McCollum unveiled plans to sue the federal government as soon as the health care legislation passed. He asked other states to join him.

Sen. Joe Negron, R-Palm City, and Attorney General Bill McCollum, a Republican gubernatorial candidate, advocated Tuesday for a plan that will allow the state to crack down on Medicaid fraud and also give it new potential to come down hard on HMO fraud.

We're two weeks into the BIG change in the Republian Party of Florida -- the election of Sen. John Thrasher, R-St. Augustine, as chairman of the RPOF. So, how is the state’s GOP boss doing?

Attorney General Bill McCollum is doing quite well, thank you.

It was McCollum who decided the party could no longer afford to keep party chairman Jim Greer, following media revelations that party funds may have been mishandled.  And, it was McCollum who enlisted the help of Sen. Mike Haridopolos, R-Merritt Island, and Rep. Dean Cannon, R-Winter Park, when it came time to ease a reluctant and combative Greer out the door.
