While Republican Rick Scott battles Democrat Alex Sink in a tight gubernatorial contest, Republicans hold steady 9- to 13-point leads for Florida's three other Cabinet-level positions, according to a Sunshine State News Poll.
With immigration emerging as one of the chief issues in the race for the Republican gubernatorial nomination -- and trying to catch up with front-runner Rick Scott -- Attorney General Bill McCollum sponsored a motion at Thursday’s Cabinet meeting for state offices to use E-Verify to ensure that no illegal aliens are hired.
The week starts, as the last several have, with a focus on the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, with President Barack Obama planning to hit Pensacola during a three-state tour on Monday that acknowledges the effects of the spill go beyond Louisiana.
In a Twitter posting expounded on by a spokeswoman, Senate President Jeff Atwater said Wednesday that if lawmakers return to Tallahassee this summer to do anything related to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, what would make most sense would be helping people and businesses losing money because of it.
