I read with interest the Sunshine State News column by Nancy Smith, "No Casinos Inc., No Sense of History,"  contending that a press release I issued on behalf of NoCasinos.org demonstrated no sense of Florida history.

With the announcement by the Genting Group and others to petition the state Legislature to allow for a broadening of gambling in South Florida, a focused objective public policy discussion on this possible “new industry” must be undertaken.

As chairman of the Florida Chamber of Commerce, the recognized voice of Florida business, we believe Florida’s future should not be for sale. There’s never a good time for a bad idea, and betting Florida’s future on expanded gambling is a very bad idea.
