Throwing some cold water on casino fever, the Florida Council on Compulsive Gambling says the state isn't addressing the addiction problems it has now.
Two Florida tribes are wrangling with federal agencies over their finances. Critics say the disputes further tarnish the integrity of Indian gaming and raise troubling questions about the state's Seminole casino pact.
The Seminole casino compact will help South Florida's horse tracks, but, as expected, hobbles pari-mutuel facilities elsewhere around the state, industry insiders say.
The Seminole casino compact approved by the 2010 Legislature could deliver up to $1.2 billion to the state's coffers over the next five years, but the back story on the deal makes that jackpot look like an ill-gotten gain. And some say the state got hosed.
