Incoming Agriculture and Consumer Services Commissioner Adam Putnam named key members of the administration on Tuesday as he prepares to leave Congress to assume his new responsibilities in January -- keeping many staffers who served under current Commissioner Charles Bronson.

Rick Scott vowed to meet with as many state legislators as possible before becoming governor in January and he continued that effort this weekend. Scott met with members of the Panhandle delegation in Shalimar on Sunday before heading down to Melbourne on Monday to meet with six members of the House.

Gov. Charlie Crist, flanked by Attorney General Bill McCollum, Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink and Agriculture and Consumer Services Commissioner Charles Bronson, presided over one of the last meetings of the Florida Cabinet Tuesday, tackling a jump in sinkhole claims and a proposed development in Polk County that led to a small flap with the Department of Community Affairs.

Florida finally received the $25 million BP promised it would give to advertise that Florida’s beaches are unsullied by oil, Gov. Charlie Crist announced Tuesday afternoon. The money came less than eight hours after the Cabinet and one senior senator slammed Crist for not doing enough to expedite receipt of the oil company's check.

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services wants consumers to know that seafood from the Sunshine State remains safe and untainted by the oil spill. And the message comes just ahead of tens of thousands of Independence Day cookouts in the state.

To get the message out, the department launched a new commercial to back Florida's commercial fishermen and its advertising partnership with major grocery chains.

Citizens Property Insurance Corp. has  the money to weather almost any major hurricane to strike the state, the chief financial officer of Florida’s state-run insurance company told the governor and his cabinet.

In a presentation Tuesday, Citizens CFO Sharon Binnun revealed the company is in a better financial position than it has ever been.

Citizens has $14 billion to pay claims in 2010, $11 billion in cash and assets, and $3.9 billion in surplus to stay afloat if a catastrophe occurs.
