While there were some dramatic races in the Sunshine State, including some pivotal victories that helped Republicans take control of the U.S. House, most of the state’s congressional races were not particularly close.

Florida-based politicians will be keeping an eye on the Family Research Council’s presidential straw poll at the Value Voters Summit coming up this weekend in Washington. There’s a whopping 17 Republicans whose name will be featured in contention.
Democrats were hoping to knock off U.S. Rep. Bill Young, the longest-serving Republican in Congress. They recruited a top challenger in Sen. Charlie Justice, D-St. Petersburg, who has been in the Legislature since 2000.
