The new Republican majority controlling the U.S. House of Representatives passed a measure Wednesday evening that would repeal the federal health-care law backed by President Barack Obama in 2010. Joined by three Democrats, 242 Republicans voted for the repeal measure while 189 votes were cast against it.

Florida’s congressional delegation is expected to mirror Congress as a whole and divide on partisan lines, with Republicans voting to repeal and Democrats voting to keep it in place.

Congress completed its legislative work for the fall a week early and adjourned midweek until after the November elections. Honestly, the legislators had little-to-nothing to show for their September fall session. Both the House and the Senate were able to pass a continuing resolution before the bewitching hour of Oct. 1. This passage means that the federal government will continue operations until the close of business on Dec. 3.
