A Nevada company that once promoted plans for orbiting space hotels signed an agreement with Space Florida Wednesday to conduct launches at Cape Canaveral.

The U.S. House of Representatives approved a bill that will add one more space shuttle launch and fund the development of commercial and heavy-lift rockets, but it won’t save the jobs of more than 1,000 shuttle workers scheduled to be laid off Friday.

If Florida hopes to hold onto space jobs, it will need to reach beyond U.S. borders, a new Obama administration policy suggests.

Kosmas, D-New Smyrna Beach, and Posey, R-Rockledge, spoke Friday at a congressional forum in Cocoa in advance of Obama's scheduled visit to Florida on Thursday.
