Some big names will be helping to usher in Rick Scott as Florida’s 45th governor. While famed Irish tenor Ronan Tynan, best known for his versions of “God Bless America” during Yankees games, will be singing, the selection of evangelical leader Chuck Colson to serve as the keynote speaker for Scott’s prayer breakfast has raised some eyebrows.
Trailing badly in the polls behind health-care executive Rick Scott in the fight for the Republican gubernatorial nomination, Attorney General Bill McCollum sought to reinforce his crime-fighting credentials Monday.
While leaders of the law enforcement community are not usually associated with Florida’s race for agriculture and consumer services commissioner, they were on center stage Tuesday as rival candidates brought out endorsements from sheriffs from around the state.
