Supervisors of elections across Florida reported a sometimes sporadically active, but mostly low voter turnout in Tuesday's primary, reminding poll watchers that more than 1 million Floridians had already voted by the time the day began.

Using the new Florida chapter of his national PAC, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, who ran for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008 and may again in 2012, sent an e-mail to supporters in the Sunshine State Friday afternoon, encouraging them to back candidates in Tuesday’s primary elections.

Gov. Charlie Crist vetoed $371 million from the state budget Friday and signed a spending plan that strips away key proposals backed by major Republican lawmakers.

Crist, now running for U.S. Senate as an independent, waited until the afternoon of his last day to sign the budget. And what he signed was a slimmed-down, slightly-more-than $70 billion spending plan rid of a much-debated raid on transportation funds, a reduction in Medicaid funds to nursing homes and many local and higher education projects.
