Business and tourism advocates see the new Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando that lets children sleep in the company of little mermaid Ariel and lion king Simba as a sign the region is making an economic recovery.

The 1,984-unit Art of Animation Resort, which Disney announced it was moving forward with Wednesday, is Disney’s first new resort in roughly seven years, and it could boost area businesses and push others to consider investing in the hospitality industry.

Florida Right-to-Life PAC released its endorsements Thursday afternoon for the Aug. 24 primaries -- and while the pro-life political group backed some candidates, the PAC also sat out or passed on others, refusing to endorse either of the two leading Republican gubernatorial candidates.

Past and potentially future presidential candidates are gearing up to head to the Sunshine State to help Florida Republicans -- and perhaps their own prospects for 2012.

On Monday, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, the 2008 presidential candidate who has moved to Florida and become active backing Republicans across the Sunshine State, endorsed three more Florida Republicans in the 2010 elections. With these endorsements, Huckabee has now endorsed seven Republicans in Florida.
